Origin of Solar System

From the time of Newton has been able to speculate about the origin of the Earth and solar system as a problem other than the creation of the universe as a whole. The idea was the solar system was a structure with a certain unified features:

1. – All major planets circling the Sun in approximately the plane of the solar Ecuador. In other words, if we prepare a three dimensional model of the Sun and its planets, we find that can be introduced into a shallow pan.

2. – All major planets revolve around the Sun in the same direction, counterclockwise to clockwise, if you look at the solar system from the North Star.

3. – All the major planets (except Uranus and possibly Venus) made one rotation around its axis in the same direction that its revolution around the Sun, or in contravention of the clock, also the sun moves in this regard.

4. – The planets are evenly spaced at increasing distances from the Sun and nearly circular orbits.

5. – All satellites, with very few exceptions, revolve around their planets in the planetary plane of Ecuador, and always in the opposite direction to clockwise. The regularity of such movements suggested, naturally, the intervention of some unique processes in the creation of the whole.

So what was the process that originated the solar system? All theories proposed so far could be divided into two classes: catastrophic evolution. According to the catastrophic point of view, the sun had been created as a single body alone, and began having a “family” as a result of a violent phenomenon. For its part, evolutionary ideas considered throughout the system had come in an orderly manner to its current state.

In the sixteenth century meant that even Earth’s history was full of violent catastrophes. Why, then, could not have been a catastrophe of cosmic scope, the result was the appearance of the entire system? A theory that enjoyed popular favor was the proposal by the French naturalist Georges-Louis Leclerc de Buffon, who claimed in 1745 that the Solar System was created from the remains of a collision between the Sun and a comet.

Naturally, Buffon involved a collision between the Sun and other bodies of comparable mass. Another body called the Comet, for lack of another name. We now know that comets are surrounded by tiny bodies insubstantial traces of gas and dust, but the principle of Buffon continues as long as we call the body colliding with another name and, in recent times, astronomers have come to this notion .

However, for some it seems more natural and less fortuitous, to imagine a more catastrophic long-drawn and not to give occasion to the birth of the solar system. This would fit in any way with the majestic Newton had sketched description of natural law that governs the movements of the worlds of the universe. Newton himself had suggested that the solar system could have formed from a thin cloud of gas and dust that had slowly condensed under gravitational attraction. As the particle approaches, the gravitational field would become more intense, the condensation would have accelerated until, at last, the total mass would have collapsed to give rise to a dense body (the Sun), incandescent because energy of contraction.

In essence, this is the basis of today’s most popular theories regarding the origin of the solar system. But we had to solve number of thorny problems, to answer some key questions. For example: How does a highly dispersed gas could be forced to join, a very weak gravitational force?
